Please "Sign the Guestbook" below and tell us what you thought of the 30th... a reflection or funny story about a classmate.  And don't forget the 5 IN 5 Program:  by the time of our next reunion (the 35th!) please tell five (5) classmates who couldn't attend the 30th what F-U-N we had.

  From the Harvard Gazette 6/14
Thursday, June 14, 2007
A man in a marshal’s morning suit and top hat was wearing a tag that said in bold print, “Bill Gates.” Funny, he didn’t look like Bill Gates. Or did he just happen to have the same name as the software billionaire? Neither. The man was Alexander Tilt, class secretary of the Class of 1977. He and his fellow class members were wearing their former classmate’s name somewhat in the manner of Red Sox fans wearing jerseys imprinted with names such as “Ortiz” and “Varitek” — a way of honoring an admired player. “We still think of him as a member of our class,” Tilt said of the wildly successful dropout. To demonstrate the class’ support of Gates, Tilt had purchased 200 crimson “Class of 1977” baseball caps at the Harvard Coop and distributed them to members. At the moment Gates stepped up to receive his honorary degree, the class members planned to toss the caps high in the air. But as it turned out, enthusiastic support is one thing and timing is another. Half the class responded at the moment Gates’ name was announced, while the other held off until the actual passing of the sheepskin. To make matters worse, there seemed to be a general reluctance to fling the caps with true abandon. Perhaps the class members were too eager to hang onto them as souvenirs. At any rate, half of them merely waved them in the air while the rest tossed them, but only so high that there was no chance of missing them as they came down. Hopefully the class found other ways of assuring their most famous member that they were still proud of him despite his abdication.

Finally recovering from that haze of massive consumption and nonstop laughter we call a reunion. Who knew a bunch of pentagenarians looked so good and talked so funky? Or that "Jameson" was a Greek name? Or that Alex Tilt's popularity could skyrocket the moment people found he had a few baseball hats? Or that Bill Gates would so cheerfully put up with classmates who totally ignored him three decades ago? Or that Travis and Teresa still give Fred and Ginger a run for their money? Or that we would be walking around the Yard during Commencement in outfits that, when we saw them on alums 30 years ago, made us mutter "What a bunch of losers"? (Well, at least the top hats didn't sag this year.) Or that we all could have such a fantastic time in the same arena where we once heard the dreaded words, "Open your blue books ... now." Many thanks to Michele, Diana, Betsy, Alex, Tom, Barry, Will, Alison, Vivian, Lauren -- and all the real heavy hitters who made this event so seamless and vital. And to the Kroks of the mid-'70s for flying in from all over the country and warbling so beautifully. And to Ed Diao for working so hard to keep me dishonest. I haven't spent so much quality time with a bunch of 22-year-olds in years. Still smiling, Peter

Fellow 77ers, I was deeply saddened to read about and hear what a success the renion was. I was revolted to read all the sentimental gushing and genuine warm feelings passed amongst you all. And I was truly nauseated to know that such a magical and fulfilling time was shared by so many during these four days in Cambridge. BECAUSE I WASN'T THERE, DAMMIT!!! JEALOUS, ENVIOUS, BITTER. NOW I HAVE 1825 LEFT OF MOPINESS AND REGRET. I truly missed sharing this time with all of you, with only two exceptions. Well, only one if you count Sackstein. Best wishes to you all. Until 2012, Andy C.

A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to give us another fun, touching and memorable reunion. These 'pentennial' (does such a word exist?) events have become a significant part of life and I will make it a priority to get to every future one. And, an enormous thank you to all the classmates and spouses who welcomed and 'babysat' my son. You made me feel truly great about having and bringing to the reunion my beloved little boy. Can't wait to 'get back' in 2012 with a five year old!

Made it to the 25th, and had a blast, reconnected with long-lost friends and hope to see others this time around from Quincy House/Thayer. No water balloon battles this time around. Bringing my daughters so they can see where the Puerto Rican kid from the Cleveland ghetto met the world. Staying on campus, will have cell (608)347-5405.

I flew all the way over for our 25th, and can't for a moment think of a reason not to fly back for our 30th. Still living in Tokyo after all these years. ps. Why is it that we all look like our parents all of a sudden? Who are these "mature looking adults" in all those photos? :-)

Happy - Happy - Happy to make it, and to see everyone! As much as it is a Reunion, I also see it as a "New Beginning" -- the chance to make New Friends and Colleagues from this occasion -- folks with whom Our Paths did not get to converge on Campus those many years ago.... Peace and Blessings to Us All -Rico
